Privacy Policy
Momentuno listens to the music playing near you, finds the 1 and counts the beat with you. This policy explains what information the Momentuno iPhone app, our server and this website use, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Microphone audio is never sent to our server, and Momentuno never records or saves it. To recognize a song, Apple’s ShazamKit sends Apple a digital signature of the sound, not the sound itself.
- If you’re 13 or older, you need to sign in with Apple or Google to use Momentuno. We keep your account ID, email address and name, and never see your password.
- We keep your birth date and onboarding answers with your account. If you’re under 13, you use Momentuno without an account, and your answers stay on your iPhone until you turn 13 and sign in.
- To find a song’s dance count, the app tells our server which song is playing and how far into it you are. These lookups aren’t linked to you, and we don’t store them.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time: Counting settings (the sliders button at the top right of the main screen) → Account → Delete account.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
1. Who we are
Momentuno is run by Cristofer Cuevas Perez (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the information described here. You can reach us at Calle La Esperanza 14, Apto. 12, Los Rios, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo 10122, Dominican Republic, by phone at +1 829-982-1914, or by email at support@moment-uno.com.
This policy covers the Momentuno app for iPhone, the Momentuno server the app talks to, and this website. Apple’s and Google’s own services, such as your Apple Account, your Google Account and the Shazam service, are covered by their own privacy policies.
2. Your account
If you’re 13 or older, you need an account to use Momentuno: after the onboarding questions, the app shows only the sign-in screen until you sign in with Apple or with Google. Accounts are only for people aged 13 and over. We never see your Apple or Google password.
What Apple and Google send us
- Sign in with Apple: an identifier for your Apple Account that is unique to Momentuno, your email address, whether it’s verified, and whether it’s a private relay address. If you choose Hide My Email, we only get a relay address that forwards to you. The first time you sign in, Apple also passes on the name you choose to share.
- Sign in with Google: an identifier for your Google Account, your email address, whether it’s verified, and your first and last name. Because Momentuno asks Google for your basic profile, Google’s sign-in token also contains your full name and a link to your profile photo, and can include your language setting or, for work or school accounts, your organization’s domain. Our server reads only your identifier, email address, whether it’s verified and your first and last name, and doesn’t keep the rest; it never fetches your photo. We don’t get access to your contacts, Gmail, Drive or any other Google data.
What we keep
On our server we keep that identifier, your email address, whether it’s verified and (for Apple) whether it’s a relay address, your name, a Momentuno account ID, and when your account was created and when you last signed in. We use them to create your account, recognize you when you sign in again, show your name in Counting settings, and keep your onboarding answers with your account. We use information from Sign in with Google only for these purposes: we don’t use it for advertising, don’t sell it, and share it only with the service providers in section 9 that run Momentuno for us.
When you sign in, our server gives your iPhone a session key, which the app keeps in the iOS Keychain. Our server stores only a scrambled (hashed) copy of it, with when it was created and last used, so it can tell that later requests come from you. A session ends after 60 days without use, after a year at most, or when you sign out.
If you sign in with Google, the app also keeps a Google access grant in the Keychain on your iPhone. It never reaches our server; the app uses it only to ask Google to remove Momentuno from your Google Account when you delete your Momentuno account.
Signing in with Apple and with Google creates two separate Momentuno accounts, even if they share an email address.
3. Your birth date and onboarding answers
Before you start counting, Momentuno asks:
- which dances you do;
- whether you lead, follow or both;
- your level;
- your birth date;
- whether you allow the microphone.
You need to answer every question before Momentuno starts; there’s no way to skip one. You can refuse microphone access when iOS asks, but then Momentuno can’t identify songs.
The app saves your answers on your iPhone. Your part and level set up the app for you: which step the dancer shows, which counts vibrate, and whether the click starts on. Your dances are shown back to you in Counting settings. Momentuno counts Salsa today; Bachata and Merengue are marked Soon, and choosing them changes nothing in the app yet. The microphone answer only records what you chose during onboarding; the iOS Settings app controls the actual permission. You can change your dances, part and level later in Counting settings.
Your birth date decides whether you can have an account. The app works out your age on your iPhone. We use your birth date only for this. We never show it to anyone or use it for advertising.
If you’re 13 or older, once you sign in the app sends your answers, including your birth date, to our server and keeps them with your account. The microphone answer records only whether you allowed access; it contains no audio. Later changes you make in Counting settings are saved to your account too. If you set up Momentuno again, for example on a new iPhone or after reinstalling it, you answer the questions again before signing in, and your new answers replace the ones saved with your account. Our server doesn’t check your age; that check happens in the app.
If you’re under 13, your answers, including your birth date, stay on your iPhone and aren’t sent to us while you’re under 13. See Children and the 13+ rule.
You can’t change your birth date or microphone answer in the app after onboarding. If your birth date is wrong, contact us and we’ll correct it in your account. To correct it on your iPhone too, or if you don’t have an account, delete and reinstall Momentuno and answer the questions again. When you then sign in, your new answers replace the ones in your account.
4. The microphone
Microphone audio is never sent to our server. Momentuno doesn’t record audio, doesn’t save it, and doesn’t keep the sound signatures made from it.
Momentuno asks for permission to use the microphone so it can hear the music around you. It listens when you tap Identify song, Another song or Resync. While counting is running, it also listens again on its own to keep the count in time with the song, usually for about 7 to 11 seconds at a time, starting again 8 to 20 seconds after the previous listen ends (up to a minute apart if the music can’t be recognized). Counting can keep running in the background or with your screen locked, and the app may keep listening while it does. If you’re waiting for a song we’re preparing, it also listens once on its own when the map is ready, while Momentuno is open, to find your place in the song. Each listen lasts 25 seconds at most, and listening stops when you tap Stop.
The sound is processed in your iPhone’s memory by ShazamKit, Apple’s song-recognition technology. ShazamKit turns it into a digital signature, a compact fingerprint of the sound that can’t be played back. It sends the signature, not the audio, to Apple’s Shazam service, which tells the app which song is playing and how far into it the music is. Apple handles this under the Apple Privacy Policy. Momentuno doesn’t add anything to your Shazam library.
You can turn microphone access off at any time in the iOS Settings app, under Privacy & Security → Microphone. Without it, Momentuno can’t identify songs.
5. The songs you count to
Looking up a song’s dance count
After Apple recognizes a song, the app asks our server for the song’s dance map, the count lined up with the music. The request contains:
- the song’s Shazam ID (a catalog number for the recording);
- the dance count to use (Salsa);
- how many seconds into the song the music is.
It doesn’t include your account, your name or anything else about you, even when you’re signed in. Our server uses it to send back the map and doesn’t store it or link it to anyone.
The song’s title, artist and Apple Music link are shown on your iPhone and kept only in the app’s memory, never saved. They’re cleared when you tap Stop, identify another song or close the app. Momentuno keeps no listening history. The Apple Music link opens only if you tap it.
When a song has no dance map yet
If you’re signed in and Apple recognizes a song that has no dance map yet, the app automatically asks our server to prepare one. It sends the song’s Shazam ID, title and artist, and the dance count, together with your session key, so our server knows the request comes from a signed-in account.
We keep the song request: which song it is and how its preparation is going. A request is shared by everyone who asks for the same song and isn’t stored with your account. To limit each account to 50 requests a day, we keep a daily count, stored under a scrambled key and deleted after about two days. To prepare the map, we use the song’s title and artist to find and analyze a public recording of the song. Nothing about you is used for that.
6. Information sent with every request
Like any internet service, our server receives your device’s IP address and the basic technical details your iPhone sends with every request: the app’s name and version, the iOS version and your preferred language. Our server keeps the IP address in memory only, for up to 30 minutes after your last request, to stop too many requests from one place (rate limiting). It doesn’t write IP addresses to our database or logs.
Render, which hosts our server, and the Cloudflare network it uses process this information for us to deliver and protect the service. They keep it in their request logs for as long as their service retains logs for our account.
7. What stays on your iPhone
- your counting preferences: the click, vibration, and whether and how the dancer shows;
- your onboarding answers, including your birth date;
- your session and, for Google accounts, the Google access grant, in the iOS Keychain;
- your Momentuno account ID, so the app knows which account already has your answers.
These aren’t sent anywhere except as described above. The Troubleshooting screen shows technical details (such as app and iOS version, microphone permission and recent timing checks) that are kept in memory only. They leave your iPhone only if you tap Copy details and paste them somewhere yourself.
8. What we don’t do
- We don’t show ads or use advertising networks.
- We don’t use analytics or crash-reporting services, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
- We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
- We don’t access your location, contacts, photos, camera or health data.
Apart from what Apple and Google receive when you use Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google and song recognition (described above), no other company collects information about your activity over time and across apps or websites through Momentuno or this website. Because we don’t track you, we treat every visitor the same whether or not their browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
9. Who else is involved
We rely on these companies to run Momentuno:
- Apple
- Sign in with Apple, ShazamKit song recognition and the App Store. Apple Privacy Policy
- Sign in with Google, and Gmail, where we read and answer the emails you send us. Google Privacy Policy
- Render
- Hosts our server, using the Cloudflare network. Render Privacy Policy
- MongoDB Atlas
- Stores our database: accounts, sessions, profiles and song requests. MongoDB Privacy Policy
- Resend
- Receives the emails you send to support@moment-uno.com, passes them on to us, and sends our replies. Resend Privacy Policy
- Website host
- Delivers this website’s pages (see section 15).
Render (with the Cloudflare network it uses), MongoDB, Resend and the company that hosts this website handle personal information only for us, to provide their service to Momentuno. We require them, and anyone else we share personal information with to run Momentuno, to protect it with the same or equal protection as this policy. Apple and Google receive information directly from your iPhone when you use Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google and ShazamKit, and handle it under their own privacy policies, as Google does with the emails in our Gmail.
Our server and database run in the United States, and Resend handles our email in the United States. If you use Momentuno from another country, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, your information is transferred there. For these transfers we rely on the safeguards in Render’s, MongoDB’s and Resend’s data processing agreements, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Contact us for a copy.
We share personal information only with these providers to run Momentuno, or when we must to comply with the law, respond to a valid legal request, or protect the rights and safety of our users or others. If Momentuno is ever transferred to a new owner, your information would go with it, still protected by this policy.
10. How long we keep information
- Account details
- Identifier, email address, name and account dates: until you delete your account.
- Birth date and answers
- On our server: until you delete your account. On your iPhone: until you delete the app.
- Sessions
- Until you sign out, after 60 days without use, or after a year at most. If the app can’t reach us when you sign out, our copy is deleted after 60 days.
- Song lookups
- Not stored.
- Song requests
- Kept as part of our song catalog, not linked to you.
- Daily request count
- About two days.
- Sign-in checks
- A scrambled one-time code that confirms each sign-in, never linked to you. It’s deleted automatically shortly after the Apple or Google sign-in token it came with expires, within a day at most.
- Rate-limit counters
- Up to 30 minutes after your last request, in memory only.
- Support email sender counts
- A scrambled form of the sender’s email address, in memory only, for up to an hour after their last email, to limit how many emails from one address we pass on.
- Request logs
- Kept by Render and Cloudflare for as long as their service retains logs for our account.
- Emails to us
- In our Gmail: as long as we need them to answer you and keep a record of your request. At Resend: for as long as its service retains emails for our account.
If our database provider keeps backups, deleted information may remain in them until those backups expire.
11. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Counting settings (the sliders button at the top right of the main screen) → Account → Delete account.
When you confirm, we permanently delete from our server your account (identifier, email address and name), every session on every device, and your saved birth date and onboarding answers. If you have both an Apple and a Google account, delete each one.
- For an Apple account, Apple asks you to confirm first. Our server then asks Apple to revoke Momentuno’s use of Sign in with Apple for your Apple Account.
- For a Google account, the app then asks Google to remove Momentuno from your Google Account. You can check that it’s gone in your Google Account connections.
Deleting your account doesn’t remove song requests (they aren’t linked to you) or the daily request count, which expires on its own within about two days.
On your iPhone, deleting your account signs you out and removes your session. Your onboarding answers, including your birth date, and your counting preferences stay on the iPhone until you delete the Momentuno app. To remove them, delete the app.
If you can’t use the app, for example because you no longer have your iPhone, email us from any address. Tell us whether you signed in with Apple or Google and give the email address on your account. To protect your account, we’ll confirm the request by writing to that address before we delete it. If you used Apple’s Hide My Email, give us the relay address Apple created for Momentuno (in the iOS Settings app, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple → Momentuno); Apple forwards our email to you. We can’t remove Momentuno’s access to your Apple or Google sign-in for you, so do that yourself as described below.
You can also stop Momentuno from using your sign-in. For Apple: in the iOS Settings app, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple (on some iOS versions it’s under Sign-In & Security), choose Momentuno and stop using it. Momentuno then signs you out the next time you open it. For Google: remove Momentuno at your Google Account connections. This doesn’t sign you out of Momentuno, so also tap Sign out in the app. Neither step deletes your data on our server. To delete it, use Delete account or contact us.
12. Children and the 13+ rule
Accounts are only for people aged 13 and over. Momentuno asks for your birth date before sign-in, and the app works out your age on your iPhone.
Children under 13 can use Momentuno without an account:
- The app never shows them sign-in, and we never create an account for them.
- While they’re under 13, their onboarding answers, including their birth date, stay on their iPhone and aren’t sent to us.
- The app doesn’t ask us to prepare new songs for them.
To count, the app still makes the anonymous song lookups described in section 5, Apple still receives sound signatures for song recognition (section 4), and our server and hosting providers receive the device’s IP address (section 6). We use a child’s IP address only to deliver Momentuno’s responses, keep the service secure and limit excessive requests. We don’t use it, and don’t let our providers use it for us, to contact the child, build a profile of them, show ads or for any other purpose. Our server keeps it in memory only, for up to 30 minutes, and never writes it to our database or logs; Render and Cloudflare keep it in their request logs as described in section 10. None of this is linked to the child.
When a child turns 13, the app asks them to sign in to keep counting. Once they sign in, the answers already on the iPhone, including the birth date, are saved to their account as described in section 3.
If you’re a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has a Momentuno account, for example because a wrong birth date was entered, contact us and we’ll delete it. If we learn that we have an account for a child under 13, we delete it. Where local law sets a higher age for agreeing to the use of personal information, people under that age need a parent’s or guardian’s permission to create an account.
13. Your choices and rights
In the app you can:
- change your dances, part and level in Counting settings;
- sign out, or delete your account (see section 11);
- turn microphone access off in the iOS Settings app.
You can also email us to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, including in a machine-readable format you can take to another service, to correct it (for example, your birth date), to delete it, or to object to or restrict how we use it. We’ll reply within 30 days, or sooner if your local law requires. To protect your account, we may confirm the request by writing to the email address on it.
Depending on where you live, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, you may have these rights by law. You also have the right not to be treated differently for using them and to complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the law requires a legal basis for using personal information, ours are:
- Providing the app you asked for: your account, onboarding answers, song lookups and song requests.
- Your consent: using the microphone, which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings.
- Our legitimate interest in keeping Momentuno secure and available: sign-in checks and rate limiting.
- Legal obligations, when the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
14. Security
Every connection between the app and our server is encrypted with HTTPS. Sign-ins are checked against Apple’s and Google’s public keys and a one-time code, so a sign-in can’t be replayed. Your session key is kept in the iOS Keychain on your iPhone, and our server stores only a scrambled copy of it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to collect as little as we can.
15. This website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or third-party content: its fonts and images are served from the site itself. It remembers the language you choose in your browser’s storage. On phones, it also remembers for the current tab that it already opened the App Store or Google Play, so it doesn’t open it again. This information never leaves your browser. The QR code on computers is made in your browser.
The company that hosts this website processes your IP address to deliver its pages. The store buttons take you to Apple’s App Store or Google Play, where their own policies apply.
16. Changes to this policy
If we change how Momentuno handles personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also give a more prominent notice before they take effect.
17. Contact us
Questions, requests or complaints about privacy: Cristofer Cuevas Perez, Calle La Esperanza 14, Apto. 12, Los Rios, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo 10122, Dominican Republic, +1 829-982-1914, support@moment-uno.com.
When you email us, for help or with a request, we receive your email address and whatever you include, such as your iPhone model, iOS and app versions, or Troubleshooting details you paste. We use it only to answer you, fix problems and handle your request. Resend receives these emails for us, and our server passes them on to our Gmail without keeping a copy. Google stores them in our Gmail, and our replies are sent through Resend.
